ABOUT ME
Hi, I’m Madison Rieland, a senior at Indiana University studying Informatics with minors in Human-Centered Computing, Web Design & Development, and Media & Creative Advertising. Since I was a young girl, I’ve been fascinated by the rapid growth of technology, and my journey into tech began with the Girls Who Code program in high school. Since then, my passion has only grown, driving me to pursue a career at the intersection of people and technology.
Currently, I’m honing my skills through hands-on experiences like my internship as a User Researcher at Capgemini, where I worked on enhancing 2 major applications for our client with persona development, journey mapping, and competitive analysis of AI solutions. At Indiana University’s Serve IT clinic, I’ve led a team focused on accessibility testing for non-profits, ensuring that their digital spaces are usable and inclusive for all users.
I’m passionate about encouraging younger students to explore the tech field. During the school year, I am an Undergraduate Instructor for Introduction to Informatics. I foster a positive learning environment to build students’ confidence. I aim to show students that anyone can master topics like HTML, CSS, Python, wireframing, and design.
Outside of my school and workday, I’m proud to be the Vice President of Women in Computing (WIC) at IU, where I lead 21 members of the Executive Board and help foster a supportive, inclusive environment for women in tech. I foster connections with companies and external organizations to further spread the movement of Women in Tech.
I’m also passionate about research recently started a position as a Proactive Health Informatics Researcher where I and am currently working on a project that explores human-computer interaction for wearable devices for female athletes. We are conducting cognitive walkthroughs, competitive analysis, and heuristic evaluations to best support our user’s needs.
My expertise spans web development, UX/UI design, and user research, and I’m always eager to dive deeper into new technologies and design strategies. Whether I’m creating an intuitive website for a non-profit or facilitating usability tests to enhance accessibility, my goal is to always design with empathy, creativity, and purpose.
Above all, I value the connections I make with others! Learning and listening to peers and mentors is how I have grown to be the person I am today. I am excited to continue designing at a people first approach.
